Autorun or Auto play option enables executable files in removable media automatically execute without any prior permission from user. For an example, when we insert Windows installation CD into our CD or DVD ROM or writer it will start execution automatically and show a menu window for easy navigation of installation.
Auto run has some drawback like if our CD or DVD or Pendrive contains any virus related exe file, then it execute automatically and affect our system after insert the removable media without any prompt. This can destroy our system in a second. So auto run is risky in this perspective.
Here also another issue, if exe files inside the media are somehow corrupted or wrongly coded then it just hangs our system after a period of time and we do not have any option except restart the system.
So, disable auto run may be a clever task for system performance with removable media. And after insert the media, first we have to check for virus, then expand it by explore or open option and thereafter click on exe files if we need to execute it.
We can easily disable autorun option for all removable devices on windows OS by following steps:-
1. Go to start button ->then select RUN from menu->type gpedit.msc
